Decoupage & Papier-mâché

Paper & glue can yield endless possibilities. I’ve always been attracted to the messiness Papier-mâché

(pay-per-muh-shay).

I began making these bowls a few days after I was in a car accident and injured my right wrist, my dominant hand. I am most proud of these pieces because they were molded and partially painted with my non-dominant left hand, which was very challenging, and also a unique experience being able to connect with muscles in my body I haven’t used before, while letting other muscles heal.

Wrist inflammation has been a challenge for me for the past few years. I’m curious to explore other ways to create without using my hands, and I want to train myself to become ambidextrous.

I’m grateful I’m alive, grateful for my friends who received these bowls as gifts, and I’m ready to continue my journey to physically and mentally heal through my creatives practices.
