Braided Seeds
Removing barriers to the outdoors for BIPOC
Braided Seeds provides opportunities for rest, restoration, and reconnection to the land, especially for communities of color, through increasing access, knowledge, and opportunities for outdoor recreation and wellness activities.
Outdoor Access
Braided Seeds is a Black Woman-Owned and primarily BIPOC staffed outdoor education organization with a focus of eliminating barriers to the outdoors for BIPOC youth and families. We support outdoor access through:
Providing free Discover Passes for annual access to state parks in Washington
Guided hikes and community outdoor days for youth, families, and community groups like Empowering Youth & Families Outreach (EYFO) and Young Black & Brilliant Book Club
Community Gear Library
Outdoor Leadership & Professional Development Training
Some of our other community partners: Black Farmers Collective, WA-BLOC, Russel Family Foundation, Seattle Aquarium, Woodland Park Zoo
Meet Mermaid Storie
Meet Mermaid Storie the Sea Librarian! Mermaid Storie loves to swim to mainland and educate Braided Seeds about Mermaid culture, water spirits, and caring for our underwater ecosystems through story time and music. Pictured: Mermaid Storie at Golden Brick Events Pride Outside Event in June 2023.
My first time dressing as Mermaid Storie was for Braided Seed’s community movie day with a free showing of The Little Mermaid.
Interested in booking Mermaid Storie for your community or private event? I’d love to support with with storytelling, music, dance, and conversation about marine life and human’s deeper connection to water.
Curriculum Development
Outside of outdoor excursions with Braided Seeds youth and family, I have the opportunity to develop graphics for social media, curriculum and resources to share with community! Our Kwanzaa Campaign will be live in December 2023.
